BIOGRAPHIE

1953 – Born 0ct. 31, Aurora, Illinois USA. Rural Farm Childhood with Strict Catholic Parochial School Upbringing

1974 – Dominican College – Bachelor of Art Major /Education Minor

1977  – Northern Illinois University Graduate School – Masters of Art Printmaking / Master of Fine Art Painting

The mid-70’s Art World was pervaded by a rebellious art movement, which went against academic oriented art objects, in favor of fleeting action oriented Performance Art which concentrated on issues of TIME, SPACE, & IDEAS.  Cynthia’s subject matter was “Catholic Religious Rituals” which prompted her to “perform” her art rather than just produce images. One example of her Performance Art was a personal New Orleans style funeral with live jazz music, her wearing a white wedding dress lying in a casket, eulogy reading for her “non death” followed by guests paying their last respects to her and enjoying a final champagne toast.

Her dream was to live in NYC and Paris, for her, the art capitals of the world. The dream became a reality via her Performance Art when she was granted an art honorarium from Long Island University in New York, and she spent the next 15 years living and working in the New York City area. Of course, like most artists, life was a struggle, and so she started producing NYC cityscapes, which are still being sold by Ro Gallery, NY. This ‘survival tactic’ also helped her after moving to Paris in December 1993 with her soon to be husband, and then two adopted children. She exhibited numerous times at the Salon des Artists Français along with a multitude of solo & group shows in Paris & its vicinity.

Twenty five years later, in an act of domestic vengeance, Cynthia lost her entire art collection. Trying to come to terms with this loss and discovering her newfound freedom as a divorcee with grown children she set off on exotic travels . One such travel lead her to the French Riviera in search of a new place to call “home”. She found it with the awe inspiring luminosity of the Côte d’Azur, for a colorist such as she, it was all that was needed to rediscover her artistic talents.

She fell in love with Villefranche-sur-Mer and her survival tactic of producing cityscapes was sparked again.  She produced paintings  of Villefranche and now neighboring Nice, while she slowly heals from her artistic devastation and re-establishes her art career of which this exhibit is the debut.
